Coffee Academics, Hong Kong
This gorgeous, industrial-chic space is a popular haunt for Hong Kong's coffee heads. The team there love trying out all the latest coffee equipment and techniques, and the baristas are more than happy to talk to customers through their latest concoctions.
Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Portland, US
Founded in in 1999, Stumptown now has branches across the US, but our favourite is its 37,000 sqare-foot space on the Portland waterfront, where you can take tours and do tastings. The brand was a pioneer of the practice of having direct relationships with coffee producers, and paying fair prices for the beans. ""We started Stumptown with the idea of getting to the source," founder Duane Sorenson told Time in 2010. "That was the concept, and that excitement is what we wanted to bring to our customers."
Truth Coffee, South Africa
There are few cafes in the world as stunning as Truth, a "steampunk inspired" artisan coffee shop that is filled from top to bottom with metal piping and quirky old machinery. But people don't just flock there for the decor - the coffee is all hand-roasted in a vintage cast iron drum, and the company supplies many of South Africa's top hotels.
